Voting turnout recorded a new high in general/by-elections of 8 Municipal Corporations and 109 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats of Punjab with 71.39 percentage of votes have been polled.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Punjab State Election Commission said that the highest turnout was recorded in Mansa district, while the lowest turnout recorded in SAS Nagar district.
Elaborating further, Spokesperson said that in SAS Nagar the voting turnout recorded 60.08 percent, while Roopnagar’s voting figure has gone up to 73.80 percent. He said that the voting percentage in Fatehgarh Sahib have achieved 75.78 percent mark, Amritsar scored 71.20 percent, Tarn Taran 63.12 percent, Gurdaspur 70 percent, Pathankot 75.37 percent, Bathinda 79 percent, Mansa 82.99 percent, Faridkot voting percentage reached at 71.03 percent, while in Hoshiarpur total 66.68 percent and Jalandhar’s poll percentage reached 73.29 percent mark. He further said that 64.34 percent voters exercised their right of franchise in Kapurthala, besides poll percentage have reached 69.71 percent in SBS Nagar, Ferozepur have scored 74.01 percent voting, Sri Muktsar Sahib district gained 68.65 percent voting tag, Moga 69.50 percent, Fazilka have marked 72.40 percent, Patiala 70.09 percent, Ludhiana managed to get the turnout figure on 70.33. Apart from this, Barnala district attained 71.99 percentage mark, though Sangrur have administered the mark of voting at 77.39 percentage.
The Spokesperson further said that today voters decided the fate of a total 9222 candidates and enlisted their opinion in EVMs. The result will come on February 17, 2021. There would be a dry day on February 17 in the state.
