A CCTV video shows two cars following Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s black SUV in Mansa district minutes before he was shot dead. The police said the singer had a bulletproof car, which he did not use that day .

Visuals show the singer’s SUV taking a right turn towards a corner as the two cars tailing it.

Punjab police said that the attack seemed to be due to a gang-war. Police also said that a Canada-based gangster has claimed responsibility for the attack.

“Lawrence Bishnoi gang is involved in this murder. Lucky, member of the gang has taken responsibility from Canada,” Punjab DGP VK Bhawra told the media. He said the name of Moose Wala’s manager Shaganpreet had figured in the murder of one Vicky Middukhera last year.

This murder appeared to be in retaliation of Middukhera’s murder, the top police officer said.

Punjab Police has also formed a special investigation team to probe the incident.

The Punjabi singer, who contested the state elections on a Congress ticket, had four commandos guarding him until yesterday, when two of them were removed by the Aam Aadmi Party government.

“Today, Sidhu Moose Wala asked the two remaining commandos not to accompany him and he did not take his bulletproof vehicle,” the police chief VK Bhawra told reporters.

“(Gangster) Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang is involved. They have claimed responsibility for the killing. The gangster is based in Canada,” the police chief said.

Meanwhile, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has urged everyone to remain calm and said that those involved in Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder won’t be spared.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Sidhu Moosewala. Nobody involved will be spared. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his fans across the world. I appeal everyone to stay calm,” Mr Mann posted on Koo.

The attack took place when Moose Wala and two of his friends were driving in a jeep to the village Jawahar Ke in Punjab. Moose Wala’s SUV was sprayed with bullets and he was found slumped on his seat and bleeding heavily. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
