Sydney: 12 Covid-positive aged care residents hospitalised

Twelve residents of an aged care home in Sydney’s inner-west have been taken to hospital after testing positive to Covid 19.
A female staff member at the Wyoming Nursing Home in Summer Hill, also known as Hardi Summer Hill, tested positive to the potentially deadly virus on 27 July.
The worker, who had received her first vaccination, is believed to have contracted the virus in the community and was asymptomatic while at work.
Since the staff member’s positive test result, the facility has been working with the Commonwealth Department of Health, NSW Health and Sydney Local Health District to undertake COVID-19 testing and contact tracing of all staff and residents of the facility.
“All close and casual contacts have been identified. All staff who are close or casual contacts have been tested and have been instructed to isolate. Residents have been tested daily,” a Wyoming Nursing Home statement said.
“Twelve residents have been identified as positive for COVID-19. They have been transferred to hospital as a precaution and the staff member, as well as her close contacts, are now in isolation.”
Dr Jeremy McAnulty from NSW Health said the data was showing that young people are “driving” the current outbreak that’s crippling Sydney’s west and south-west.
“We are concerned about young people particularly 18 to 39-year-olds who are driving a lot of the epidemic. We are seeing cases at high rates in those age groups,” Dr McAnulty said.
“This is the age group that tends to be a link between kids, younger people, and older, elderly relatives.
