State Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons MP, has announced critical relief funding for a local organisation supporting vulnerable people in our local community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre provides vital services to some of our most vulnerable local community members – in some instances these may be temporary visa holders and in others they may be longer term migrants” Ms Gibbons said.
“I commend the work of all the staff and volunteers who have stepped up during these extremely difficult times to support our local community when we need it most.
“This funding is a vital boost and will ensure the delivery of essential services and emergency relief support.”
Acting Minister for Multiculturalism Geoff Lee announced $4 million for 34 organisations across metropolitan and regional NSW.
“This funding will support organisations assisting vulnerable temporary visa holders who are not eligible for Commonwealth Government financial support,” Mr Lee said.
“It will fund emergency relief support including food, medicine and telecommunications.
The successful organisations are a combination of large and small service providers including numerous smaller grassroots organisations across NSW.
“The funding also provides broader support for funded organisations to continue their operations, including the employment of case workers and the provision of interpreting and translation services,” Mr Lee said.
On top of this round of funding, the NSW Government has distributed an additional $2 million immediate grants to organisations supporting asylum seekers during the pandemic this financial year.
