Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Badal, Amarpal Singh Bony and Virsa Singh Valtoha were booked by the Beas police on Thursday a day after they conducted a ‘raid’ after spotting illegal mining on the Beas riverbed along the main National Highway.
A case has been registered against the Akali leaders under Sections 269, 270, 188, 341, 506 of the IPC and 3 of the Epidemic Disease Act on the complaint of M/S Friends and Company of Amritsar.
As per the complainant, Badal along with other two leaders on Wednesday reached the mining spot and started threatening the employees. They also obstructed the legal mining operations at the de-silting site at Wazir Bhullar. The mining site was allotted to the company by the state government and also, they had taken permission from the Mining Department as well as the Ministry of Environment and Forest. Badal and others levelled false allegations against the company just to gain publicity in the upcoming assembly elections of 2022, said the complainant.
