Despite Rohit Sharma’s 72-run knock off 41 balls and Yuzvendra Chahal’s figures of 3 for 34, India lost to Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the Super 4 match between the sides at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.
India faced an early blow after they lost two back-to-back wickets of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. Put in to bat first, India had the worst start possible with Rahul getting dismissed LBW in the second over of the innings, with team’s score at 11/1. India star batter Virat Kohli was clean bowled for a duck in the third over, leaving Team India struggling at 13/2.
Meanwhile, Kusal Mendis was the top run-scorer for Sri Lanka with 57 runs. Pathum Nissanka also helped the team’s cause with his 52-run knock. Bhanuka Rajapaksa (25 not out) and Dasun Shanaka (33 not out) stitched a 64-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take Sri Lanka through. Earlier, India had posted 173 for 8 on the board, thanks to Rohit Sharma’s 72-run knock off 41 balls.
