Actor Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau today in connection with drugs-related allegations in the Sushant Singh Rajput case on Tuesday. She was sent to judicial custody and asked to go to a sessions court for bail. She is likely to do so tomorrow.
Rhea Chakraborty, who dated Sushant Singh Rajput in his final months, has been charged with organizing drugs for the Bollywood star after three days of questioning. She “is an active member of the drug syndicate connected with drug supplies,” the Narcotics Control Bureau said in its court documents. She faces charges that could lead to jail for up to 10 years but the Narcotics Control Bureau makes no official mention of her using drugs.
“We have evidence against Rhea, which is why we arrested her. There is no need for custody,” said Mutha Ashok Jain, a senior official of the Narcotics Control Bureau. He admitted that no drugs had been found on her.
According to sources, Rhea Chakraborty broke down when confronted with her brother Showik Chakraborty, who was arrested last week.
Documents submitted in court say Rhea Chakraborty “procured drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput and used to manage finance for drug procurement with him”.
Quoting Showik Chakraborty and Sushant Singh Rajput’s employees Samuel Miranda and Dipesh Sawant, the anti-drugs bureau told the court that “every delivery and payment was in conscious knowledge of Rhea Chakraborty”.
Samuel Miranda and Sawant, who were arrested last week, “used to receive drugs for consumption of Sushant Singh Rajput”, according to the document. “During interrogation, Samuel Miranda disclosed that he used to procure drugs on the direction of Sushant Singh Rajput and Rhea Chakraborty,” said the agency
“Dipesh Sawant disclosed that he used to receive drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput on his directions and on several occasions Rhea Chakraborty instructed him. Financial issues for purchase of drugs were dealt with by Sushant Singh Rajput and Rhea.”
After her arrest in the afternoon, Rhea Chakraborty, dressed in all-black with a “Smash the Patriarchy” message across her tee, waved at the cameras before getting into a police van.
