A barramundi fish farm in Sydney’s north west is set to take the world by storm as it starts to export its Swift Grow liquid fertiliser to the Middle East, UK and France while dramatically increasing its domestic sales.
Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope said River Stone Fish Farm had engaged with the NSW Government’s Business Connect service late last year for advice on how to export their fertiliser.
“River Stone Fish Farm has been selling barramundi to restaurants and their liquid fertiliser made from fish manure to golf courses, councils and nurseries domestically, since it was established by CEO Joseph Ayoub 12 years ago,” Mr Tudehope said.
“Business Connect helped River Stone with their website development, social media and strategic planning and put them in touch with NSW Export Advisers, Austrade, the Australian Small Business Advisory Service and Industry Capability Network.
“Through our NSW Export Adviser network they were introduced to the NSW Trade and Investment Commissioner to the Middle East based in Abu Dhabi and that opened the door to a potential customer – the Middle East-based Desert Group.
“Their organic liquid fertiliser was trialled by The Desert Group earlier this year and they have now exported an initial order of 1000 litres.
River Stone Fish Farm Marketing Manager Emil Isaac said the business was now set to hire more staff thanks to the new purchase orders and a 500 per cent increase in Australian sales since June.
“Trials have shown our Swift Grow product restores poor soil by boosting the beneficial micro-organisms in the soil, which results in better plant growth, and thanks to Business Connect and the contacts they gave us, we’re looking forward to sharing this product with more markets across the world,” Mr Isaac said.
The business had also pivoted during COVID-19 to produce their disinfectant, Swift Disinfectant, which is made from the gland of fish.
