NRL: Maroons could be without Valentine Holmes for Game Two

The Maroons could be without Valentine Holmes for Game Two after the Cowboys fullback was placed on report for a shoulder charge during North Queensland’s 50-18 loss to Manly.

Holmes late in the first half appeared to lead in with his shoulder, which made contact with the head of Manly’s Haumole Olakau’atu, who had just crashed over in the corner for a try.

It’s expected the incident will be reviewed by the match review committee, which will likely result in a charge.

“He comes across, tries to make a stop on Haumole Olakau’atu. There’s no question he makes contact with the head of Olakau’atu.

“That was seen by the bunker as they reviewed the try and Valentine Holmes was placed on report.

“I think that action there, given the contact we saw, I think Valentine Holmes has a pretty big issue.”

Steve Roach added: “I think he’s going to be in a little bit of trouble because he did make contact with the head.

“The big thing there is he didn’t even try to wrap his arms around to try and make a tackle.”
