Modern residential apartments for vulnerable people coming up at Bigge Street

Construction has started on a $25.35 million housing renewal project delivering 52 new social homes, connected with essential services, to support vulnerable people in south-western Sydney, while creating jobs and a timely economic boost.

A modern residential apartment building is being constructed at 4-6 Bigge Street, Warwick Farm, comprising 28 one-bedroom and 24 two-bedroom high-quality homes.

Minister for Water, Property and Housing, Melinda Pavey, was on site today to officially welcome construction works getting underway, launching another social housing revitalisation project that’s delivering multiple benefits for the people and economy of NSW.

“These 52 new social apartments at Bigge Street will support vulnerable community members, in an area of high demand, while creating an estimated 127 jobs during construction,” Mrs Pavey said.

“These modern homes are also purposefully designed to give residents a better living experience, through their close proximity to transportation, shops and health facilities.

“When we recycle aging housing assets, we’re not only building new homes that meet the changing needs of residents, we’re also backing our economy and the construction sector.”

Team Leader at Hutchinson Builders, Fernando Uribe, said his company is looking forward to delivering the new social homes in partnership with the NSW Government through the NSW Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC).

“We are thrilled to bring our team’s extensive experience and collaborative mindset to the project working with LAHC’s expertise to deliver great outcomes. We’ve also employed additional apprentices to grow our existing workforce to meet the needs of this new housing development,” Mr Uribe said.

The Bigge Street renewal project was approved by the Sydney Western City Planning Panel in mid-2020. The new homes will be located on the Liverpool CBD boundary, within walking distance to Warwick Farm train station. Construction is due to be completed in early 2022.

Underground car parking spaces, extensive site landscaping and communal areas also feature in the development, to enhance resident experience and comfort.

Across south-western Sydney, NSW Government is working on more than 40 sites and precincts, with a combined development value of $3.948 billion, which are expected to deliver more than 11,000 new homes, including more than 3,500 social homes, and create around 20,000 jobs.
