“I’m back.”

It was those two simple worlds that shook the sports world when Michael Jordan announced he would be returning to the NBA after a stint playing baseball.

Long before the days of Twitter, Jordan’s agent sent out THAT press release via fax to let the world know that his baseball career was over and that he would return to play for the Chicago Bulls.

The next day he suited up for his first game of the season.

The Bulls had previously retired Jordan’s #23 jersey, forcing him to now-famously come back wearing the #45.

Jordan had been away from basketball for 17 months, but in his first game back, you could barely tell as he posted 19 points (7-of-28 FG), six rebounds, six assists and three steals against the Indiana Pacers.

And it didn’t take long before he was back to his usual tricks. Just five games into his comeback, Jordan hung 55 points on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
