Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to post 162/4 on a sticky wicket. David Warner made a healthy contributions and Kane Williamson too. Jonny Bairstow played the anchor with a wonderful half-century and debutant Abdul Samad opening his batting account in the IPL.
But was 162 for four enough. It certainly was by 15 runs. Here is how:
In the closing moments, Delhi requires 28 off 6 deliveries. Delhi 135/6 after 19 overs.
Before this T Natarajan had hammered the final nail as he trapped Marcus Stoinis and Hyderabad was certainly on its way to register its first win.
Delhi 126/6 after 18 overs.
And before this it was something like this:
Wicket! Rashid Khan, wow… What an exceptional spell 4-0-14-3 and he removes Rishabh Pant to put Sunrisers firmly on top. Unless Stoinis plays a blinder, it’s SRH’s game! Delhi 119/5
Wicket! Bhuvneshwar Kumar strikes and he removes the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer. Excellent from the strike bowler and required run rate has spiked to almost 13. Marcus Stoinis joins Rishabh Pant. Delhi 114/4 after 16 overs.
Shimron Hetmyer gets into the act with two sixes and is keeping Delhi in the hunt. Delhi 104/3 after 15 overs.
T Natarajan gets whacked for a boundary but comes back brilliantly to halt Rishabh Pant’s charge. Delhi 88/3 after 14 overs.
Rishabh Pant makes use of the life handed by Abhishek Sharma as he releases the pressure by tonking the bowler for two consecutive sixes. Delhi 78/3 after 13 overs.
Wicket! Rashid Khan strikes again and this time removes Shikhar Dhawan. SRH take the review and replays suggested there was a little tickle off the toe end of Dhawan’s bat. Shimron Hetmyer joins Pant with Delhi in trouble. Delhi 63/3 after 12 overs.
Brilliant from Abhishek Sharma as he dries up the boundaries and the required rate has climbed nearly to 12. Delhi needs a move on. Delhi 60/2 after 11 overs.
Great contest between Rashid Khan and Shikhar Dhawan and the southpaw executes an excellent sweep shot to get a boundary. Delhi needs 109 runs in 60 balls. Delhi 54/2 after 10 overs.
Great comeback from Abhishek Sharma, bowling is arm balls and denying both Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan any room to take off. Delhi 48/2 after 9 overs.
Wicket! Rashid Khan strikes and he removes Shreyas Iyer. Iyer went for a booming shot but there was no control and Samad takes an excellent catch. Excellent from Rashid as he takes a wicket and gives just one run. Delhi 43/2 after 8 overs.
Abhishek Sharma is yet to find his feet as he gives away eight from his first over. Delhi 42/1 after 7 overs.
Shreyas Iyer is slowly opening up and he stamps his authority with a magnificent loft over mid-off. Delhi 34/1 after 6 overs.
Shikhar Dhawan is attacking and is unsettling the bowler while Shreyas Iyer is biding time and trying to settle into his zone on a little two-paced track. Delhi 27/1 after 5 overs.
Shikhar Dhawan is looking in good touch but T Natarajan has started off well by giving just five from his first over. Delhi 15/1 after 4 overs.
Bit of audacity from Shikhar Dhawan as steps out and with a straight bat whacked it over the bowler’s head for a boundary. But Bhuvneshwar comes back strongly. Delhi 10/1 after 3 overs.
Khaleel Ahmed has backed Bhuvneshwar Kumar by bowling an excellent over as he gives just three runs. Delhi 5/1 after 2 overs.
Wicket! Bhuvneshwar Kumar strikes and he gets the dangerous Prithvi Shaw. The opener chases an away delivery and nicks it to Jonny Bairstwo behind the stumps. Perfect start for Hyderabad. Delhi 2/1 after 1 over.
Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan begin Delhi’s chase of 163 and it’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar with Shaw on strike.
