In times of crisis, there are a few humble souls who keep their act together and help others in the most unassuming of ways. They do not get themselves clicked while distributing food items; they do not look at the camera and strike a pose as if doing a favour to humanity. They just go about their business with a strength that needs to be applauded. So even as COVID-19 is threatening the very existence of mankind, this couple from Jhunjhunu, Narhad, Rajasthan, in India, is doing their bit for no greed of recognition, but just as their duty towards society. Towards people who need them the most in this hour of misery, uncertainty.
Nursing officer Varsha Kumari Jangid is employed at PBM Hospital, Bikaner and her young socialist husband Dr Rahul Jangid is a veterinarian by profession, who is currently an agricultural service officer in the world’s largest company in the dairy sector – Nestle India Limited. Together after their daily jobs, they have been stitching masks for the people who cannot afford to buy them. In addition to Bikaner, they are supplying the masks in five districts of Rajasthan and one in Punjab.
MUST-READ: Yes We Can Beat It
The masks made by Varsha were praised by not only her staff, but when these were brought to Moga in Punjab, her company’s country head really admired Varsha’s skills and ordered that the extra clothes left over after stitching the employees’ dress would be given to local women in Moga to make more masks. The couple has also been hugely praised by the Gandhi Peace Foundation, Nepal, for this initiative.
For their exemplary work from the very early days of lockdown, Dr Rahul Jangid has been made the Rajasthan state in-charge of the nationwide programme, ‘Anti-Corona Task Force’, launched by the ‘All-India Principal Organization, New Delhi. His wife Varsha has been made the Rajasthan State Vice President of the task force.
Commendable achievement; without any thought of remuneration of any sort! So, shouldn’t the Indian government make such individuals role models and consider them for the nation’s highest awards in the times to come? Do people need to prove themselves any more than this couple?
In the meantime, the humble journey of the couple continues. They have no thoughts of recognition; they are just doing their duty. They will not look back.
