Get used to wearing masks’: New South Wales CHO

NSW citizens will have to get used to wearing masks.

People of New South Wales have to “get used to masks” Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said at Monday’s press conference in response to a question about when the mask mandate would be eased.

“As we get the population vaccinated and as we open our borders, it’s unlikely the vaccine will eliminate COVID,” she said. “It’s too early to say, but I think people just need to get used to wearing masks and we really emphasised it is about indoor places. However, Ms Chant caveated her message regarding masks when it came to people with medical issues or young children under the age of 12. “I would urge members of the community – when they actually see someone not wearing a mask – leave that judgement to police or to other enforcement officers because you never know what is behind that for that individual”. “Whilst we want that peer pressure to wear masks, we also don’t want to turn it into making people reluctant to go and get their groceries, to seek healthcare, to go to the pharmacy.”
