Blockbuster Friday night game gets go-ahead after Melbourne Demons test Covid-negative

The

have confirmed all their players and staff have returned negative COVID-19 tests after a scare threatened their blockbuster Friday game against Bulldogs.

On Thursday it was revealed that a Melbourne player was found to be present at  tier one covid19 exposure site on Sunday, forcing him into a mandatory 14-day isolation and jeopardising the Demons’ next clash.

As a result, every Melbourne player and staffer had to be tested and isolate, but luckily all have since been cleared.

“Players and staff are now clear to attend the club’s Round 11 clash with the Bulldogs,” the club confirmed in a statement on Friday morning.

“The player who attended a tier one exposure site will continue to undertake his 14-day isolation as per government regulation.”

AFL boss Gillon McLachlan said there is still some uncertainty as to how Victoria’s seven-day ‘circuit-breaker’ will affect the season’s scheduled games beyond Round 11.

“Candidly, no [I don’t know what’s happening next week],” he told 3AW on Friday.
