A man who threatened Sydney Roosters star Josh Morris on social media has been banned by betting agencies as part of a crackdown on online trolls.
“F*** you dog c***, you f***ed up my multi, I’m out the front of Leumeah stadium waiting for your bus to rock up, Wait till you walk out of the that [sic] back door, you won’t know what hit ya,” he wrote in a direct message.
Morris posted a screenshot of the message on his Instagram stories, saying: “This stuff needs to stop”.
Sportsbet confirmed the bet was not placed on its platform, but a spokesman said it had identified that the person in question had a Sportsbet account, and that he had been banned for life.
There are also reports of other bookmakers banning this user.
The Instagram account belonging to the user, whose name was included in Morris’s screenshot, is no longer active.
“Thanks everyone for your kind messages. Hopefully this person has learnt a lesson that trolling isn’t on and it should be called out,” Morris wrote.
The 34-year-old also said “we don’t care about your multis”, referring to multi-leg bets, where numerous bets are put together and one incorrect wager can prevent a gambler from being paid out.
Morris is the second high-profile NRL star to call out this sort of online abuse in recent weeks.
Melbourne Storm winger Josh Addo-Carr earlier this month posted a picture of himself holding up a cardboard sign, reading “NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR MULTI”.
Former Storm player and current Raider Curtis Scott added in the comments: “No one care [sic] about your fantasy team.”
The post also drew praise from Melbourne teammates Ryan Papenhuyzen, Cameron Munster, Felise Kaufusi and Dale Finucane, as well as grand final opponent Nathan Cleary and AFL star Nic Naitanui.
